Compeer“THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE” URGES AMERICA TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WAR TRAUMA AND THOSE AFFECTED

(Buffalo, NY) – Compeer of Greater Buffalo, the only organization in Western New York dedicated to recovery through the healing power of friendship, announced today that it will host a special screening of “Thank You for Your Service”, an Award-winning Film about Veterans and PTSD. The screening will take place on Wednesday, November 16th, at 7:30pm at AMC Maple Ridge 8 located at 4276 Maple Rd, Amherst NY 14226. A Q & A with Veteran’s services representatives will follow.

“My goal in screening this film for our community is to highlight the impact of combat and the need for a real focus on behavioral health and access to services, education and support for our veterans and families,” stated Tina Caviness, program coordinator for Compeer’s Vet-2-Vet program and coordinator of the Western New York screening.

The U.S. military faces a mental health crisis of historic proportions. “Thank You for Your Service” takes aim at our superficial understanding of war trauma and the failed policies that result.
Director Tom Donahue interweaves the stories of four struggling Iraq War veterans with candid interviews of top military and civilian leaders. Observing the systemic neglect, the film argues for significant internal change and offers a roadmap of hope. Interviews include Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Admiral Mike Mullen, Generals David Petraeus and Loree Sutton, Nicholas Kristof, Dexter Filkins, Senator Patty Murray, Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson.

For information about this November 16th screening event or to purchase tickets ($13.50 each, plus $2.00 service fee), contact Tina Caviness at 716-883-3331 or email tina@compeerbuffalo.org.
